About this course
Learn to Read the Qur'an at Bilqalam Institute is a foundation course that teaches children and adults to read the Qur'an from zero, letter by letter, until they can read from the Mushaf on their own.
We start with the Arabic letters, their shapes and their sounds. Then come the harakat, sukoon, shaddah, tanween and madd. Letters join into words, words join into ayat, and before long you're reading from the Mushaf. Starting from zero is normal at any age. Your teacher moves at your pace in live one-to-one classes, and after every class you get a short report on what was covered and what comes next.
How does the course work?
The course runs as live one-to-one classes with a specialist teacher, at times you choose around your schedule.
In the free trial class, the teacher gets to know your level (or your child's) and picks the right starting point. Classes then follow a clear plan, and a report after each one lets you follow the progress as it happens. Watch the video to see how it all works in one minute.

This course gives you everything you need to read the Qur'an correctly from the ground up, one practical step at a time.
Each lesson builds on the one before it, so you only move on once the last step feels solid. Here's what you'll be able to do:

- Handle madd and join letters into words
- Read ayat straight from the Mushaf yourself
- Build a sound base for learning Tajweed next

This course is for anyone who can't read the Qur'an yet, or reads with a lot of stumbling and wants a proper foundation.
No Arabic is needed beforehand. Your teacher starts exactly where you are.

I'm an adult and don't know a single letter. Can I still learn?
Yes, absolutely. This course is built for starting from zero. Your teacher goes letter by letter at a pace that works for you, with no rush and no judgement. Age has never stopped anyone from learning to read the Qur'an.
How long until I can read from the Mushaf?
It depends on how many classes you take each week and how much you practise between them. After the trial class, your teacher will give you a realistic estimate based on your level and schedule.
What language are the classes taught in?
Classes are available in English or Arabic, so you don't need to understand Arabic to start. Your teacher will use whichever language works best for you or your child.
Are female teachers available?
Yes. We have qualified female teachers, and you choose a male or female teacher to suit you or your child. If it isn't the right match, we'll change it for free at any time.
